About

"Voyages in Color" at The Center for Wooden Boats presents a striking collection of paintings by local artist Saeed Tavakkol. These works capture the essence of the Pacific Northwest with bold colors and expressive contrasts, inviting viewers to explore the natural landscapes and emotional depths they portray.

Saeed's use of color contrasts does more than depict scenes—it opens gateways to emotion, reflecting the vibrant journeys we experience aboard our vessels. Each painting is a dialogue between the artist's internal world and the external beauty of our surroundings, resonating with the memories and sceneries our boats reveal.

This exhibit invites you to delve into the canvas, uncovering your own stories and emotions as you appreciate the beauty of both journey and destination. Each stroke is a testament to a spectrum of experiences—from tumultuous to serene—capturing moments we cherish in the natural world.

About the Artist

Artist's Statement

“I am a self-taught artist. I believe art is a true expression of the soul—the exhilaration of exploring the boundless galaxy of creativity. Ten years ago, I moved to Seattle and fell in love with the nature of my new home. Many of my artworks reflect the natural beauty of the rainforest I live in! The sharp color contrast in my work is a reflection of my mood; it gives depth and transpires my emotions. The subjects of my art are often products of my chaotic childhood and turbulent life. I also write novels, short stories, satire, and poetry. Of course, I dabble in sculpting too whenever I find the right material to work on. The vast majority of my creative products are on my website.”

Artist's Confession

“My art is always a work in progress. Depending on my feelings and frame of mind, at times, I attempt to adjust colors and tones, refine details and compositions to fit my mood and enhance my creations. However, during this melancholic yet exhilarating process, sometimes I lose my temper, get angry at myself and tackle my creations, tear them apart with vengeance, and throw them in the trash if I don't like what I see! For that exact reason, unfortunately over the years, some of my work has disappeared.

This short fiction of mine was inspired by this reality. https://www.tavakkol.net/fiction/a-work-of-art
