Adult Programs Assistant

Reports to: Programs Manager
Hours: 40 hours/week
Type: Full-time, seasonal (March – October), hourly position (works on-site)
Salary: DOE

CWB seeks an experienced leader to assist with the adult sailing programs, teach private sailing lessons and support the Public Sail program. The Adult Programs Assistant supports The Center for Wooden Boats’ mission by ensuring quality hands-on sailing & maritime skills experiences for adults, families, visitors and groups.

Primary Responsibilities:

Management & Delivery of Programs:

  • Coordinate oversight of adult sailing programs with Programs Manager
  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers weekly
  • Work with Programs Manager to create and manage yearly budget
  • Maintain online scheduling systems, program registration data, student scheduling and communication
  • Deliver programs on a regular basis as lead instructor
  • Assist Programs manager in delivery of Sunday Public Sail Program

Recruitment & Training:

  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to actively recruit and train new sailing program volunteers
  • Conduct risk management trainings with seasonal staff and volunteer

Program Development:

  • Work with Programs Manager to create advanced skills strategy
  • Review and update training manual and educational activities for volunteers

General CWB Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the CWB team to support our mission
  • All other duties as assigned


  • 2 years’ experience teaching sailing as lead sail instructor or managing sailing programs
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering sailing programs
  • Extensive knowledge of sailing and boats
  • Competence in operating small powerboats
  • Experience defining and complying with risk management practices
  • Inspiring leader
  • 2 years’ experience working with volunteers
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all ages
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaborate with a team
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and creative in problem-solving
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, including managing multiple projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database entry
  • Open to feedback and demonstrates flexibility, patience and a sense of humor
  • Must be a US citizen or possess a valid resident/work permit.
  • Must pass a National Criminal History Background check.
  • Flawless reliability


  • US Sailing Instructor certification
  • First Aid and C.P.R. certified
