Intermediate Sailing

Learn new skills and knowledge such as pointing and footing, getting out of irons, overboard recovery, laylines and Rules of the Road. This is the next step for those who know the basics of sailing and are ready to sail an El Toro solo; Intermediate Sailing refines observation and problem-solving skills while continuing to build confidence and independence.

Sailors who complete US Sailing’s “Little Red Book” skills during Intermediate Sailing will earn an El Toro Livery Card enabling them to continue sailing on their own! Click here to learn more about renting a small sailboat.

Prerequisites: Beginning Sailing or instructor permission. Please email youthsailing@cwb.org for more information or to request permission.

Requirements & What to expect

A swim test is not required for CWB’s youth sailing programs. Lifejackets are required and provided for all participants. The first day of Intermediate Sailing includes a capsize drill, where students deliberately flip and right their sailboat next to the dock and under close instructor supervision.
