Oar Making

Humans have been rowing boats and making oars for thousands of years. In recent times there has been a trend to market and sell oars that ignore tradition and do not function properly. Students will learn how to make an oar from start to finish that will stand the test of time and not end up in a landfill. No tools or experience required but students can bring in their own planes and chisels if desired. During this course topics will be covered that include oar design, spar gauge theory/use, and proper use of hand tools. These oars will be used in CWB’s Livery for the upcoming summer.
