Beginning Sailing at South Lake Union

In this introduction to sailing, new sailors learn basic theory and terminology to build a foundation of skills. Learn and practice tacking, jibing, sail trim, weight balance and capsize recovery, as well as teamwork, communication, observation and patience. Youth sail in teams of two in our 8′ El Toros. No Experience Necessary.

This learn-to-sail camp can be paired with the STEM Underwater Robotics Program for middle-school girls, where students learn to build underwater robots. This program runs for 4 weeks immediately following the sailing camp. For more information, or to register for both sections, follow this link:

Requirements & What to expect

A swim test is not required for CWB’s youth sailing programs. Lifejackets are required and provided for all participants. The first day of Beginning Sailing includes a capsize drill, where students deliberately flip and right their sailboat next to the dock and under close instructor supervision.
