Wagner Education Center Groundbreaking: We Did It!

Today, we had our groundbreaking ceremony for the Wagner Education Center, and now we are officially underway!

We had the perfect Seattle day to commemorate the occasion, with the rain holding off until the event was finished. To everyone who attended, and to everyone who helped get us to this moment, we’d like to extend a very big THANK YOU! Your support and participation have very literally made this possible, and we’re so excited to see what’s next! But, of course, nobody says it better than our Founding Director, Dick Wagner:

Colleen and I want to thank all of you for coming out in the Seattle Sunshine to help us celebrate on this happy occasion. We are particularly grateful for the persistence of our Capital Campaign Committee members and the generosity of our corporate, civic and individual donors.

It seems like just yesterday that we sat together discussing how the wooden boat building industry on Lake Union was dwindling and that somehow our wooden boat heritage should be preserved. Why not help people learn about their maritime heritage through hands-on experience?

What was a dream then has grown into The Center for Wooden Boats, a unique place for people of all ages and abilities to experience the heritage of small wooden boats from diverse cultures. The Education Center will let us serve more people with more programs. We are proud to have this building bear our names. –Dick
