2015 Festival Artwork
Every year, CWB selects a local artist to create an original work featured on a poster promoting the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival. The 2015 poster features a paper-cut work of the ketch Ariel by Lara Gaasland-Tatro.
about the Artist
Lara Gaasland-Tatro is an adventurer, artist, scientist, and licensed captain. When she’s not sailing, Lara can be found creating more art or working towards her second masters degree. Her paper cuts, influenced by years of woodcarving and sailing, are inspired by the challenge of simplifying the interplay of light and shadow. The image of this years’ poster features her friends Christy Grandquist and Daniel Joram’s beautiful home, the ketch Ariel of Victoria. About the Boat
The Ariel of Victoria is a Bermuda-rigged ketch built in in 1981 by Fred Peterson and Ronald Hunt. Current owners Christy Granquist and Daniel Joram are partway through a long renovation. Last summer she went north to Desolation Sound and took 1st place in the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club’s “Race Your House” liveaboard race.
